Hi!
I've just thought it would be a good thing for us to start finding out the spanish translation to certain technical terms hard to translate. I will do the kick-off with this word: backhaul. Easy, eh?

Does anyone have an accurate translation to it?

Tnx.

según wikipedia, "red de retorno"

Red troncal= backbone

I quote wordreference forums:

(1) In wireless network technology, to transmit voice and data traffic from a cell site to a switch, i.e., from a remote site to a central site.

(2) In satellite technology, to transmit data to a point from which it can be uplinked to a satellite.

(3) To transmit data to a network backbone

so they suggest to translate it as "retroconexion" or just "conexion"

I know what it is about, I'm just trying to find (if possible) a simple word, or alternatively a short combination of words that makes sense for translation purposes. I don't want to be long winded because it implies being not accurate and taking extra time to translate.

Tnx.

Nero, just an unrelated comment.

I wouldn't have said "Easy, eh?', but 'Easy, isn't it?".

Well, that's true, but only if I wanted to be formal. I could have also said "easy, huh?" and that would be OK too.

What about "exploit"? We all probably know what it is. The wikipedia says:

An exploit (from the same word in the French language, meaning "achievement", or "accomplishment") is a piece of software, a chunk of data, or sequence of commands that take advantage of a bug, glitch or vulnerability in order to cause unintended or unanticipated behavior to occur on computer software, hardware, or something electronic (usually computerized). This frequently includes such things as gaining control of a computer system or allowing privilege escalation or a denial of service attack).
But, how do you translate "exploit" into spanish?

I would probably put it as "ataque malicioso sobre vulnerabilidades de un sistema".

Not bad. Maybe a bit too long for the exam? :P

I'd translate it depending on context. Maybe as "ataque" or "aprovechamiento de una vulnerabilidad". I don't think there is a unique way for this one...
